Belfast

Belfast Bars

In recent years, Belfast has quickly become one of the most popular cities in the UK. Tourism has boomed, thanks in large part to extensive regeneration schemes set up by the government, and as a result many new pubs, clubs, and bars have opened in each of the seven quarters of the city. The most popular of these quarters include the Golden Mile, the University District, and the Cathedral Quarter. Popular for short trips as well as extended stays, Belfast has even been listed as one of the UK’s Top 12 Destinations To Visit in Europe by American Tourist Guidebook Frommer’s.

Booming Nightlife

As the capital of Northern Ireland and the second largest city on the island of Ireland, Belfast has long been a popular drinking spot and while the pubs and clubs offer year round popularity, it is between the months of October and May when the city offers an even more buzzing environment. The Golden Mile and University District offer a collection of modern bars while more traditional Irish pubs can be found throughout the other quarters of the city, especially in the Cathedral Quarter.

Golden Mile

Part of the Queen’s Quarter, the Golden Mile consists of two roads stretching between Belfast City Hall and Queen’s University. The Golden Mile houses some of the more modern and trendy venues and, as well as bars and clubs, visitors enjoy local access to the Prestigious Lisburn Road shopping strip filled with retail outlets, restaurants, and other venues. The Golden Mile features a particularly large concentration of drinking and eating establishments in a comparatively short stretch of road.

University District

The University District, which forms a major part of the Queen’s Quarter, is home to and named after Queen’s University. A large population of students means there are many pubs, clubs, and bars that enjoy particularly busy nights between October and May. The Queen’s Quarter has undergone major redevelopment in a bid to help further boost the tourist revenue generated by Belfast and this means a number of new venues have opened here too.

Cathedral Quarter

The Cathedral Quarter is known for being the cultural centre of the city and as well as offering a fairly extensive network of museums and galleries, the Cathedral Quarter also hosts regular festivals that include the annual visual and performing arts festival. When you’re not enjoying good food, great drinks, and the lively nightlife you can fulfil your retail craving at the staggering £400m Victoria Square shopping complex that, among other features, includes the world’s largest House of Fraser store.

Tourism And Events

Belfast is a culturally diverse city that is already a very popular destination with day trippers, locals, and tourists from around the world. Each of the quarters and districts has something quite unique to offer visitors and an almost constant regeneration plan established to further boost tourism has led to the emergence of many new bars. As well as modern venues there are still some of Ireland’s world renowned pubs with great drinks and a warm and inviting atmosphere to attract you to the Northern Ireland capital.
