Brighton Nightlife
Brighton is different things to different people. Able to trace its history back to the times of the Domesday Book, it is certainly rich in both history and heritage although the town became especially popular during the 18th century as a health resort. The introduction of the train system saw it become even more popular with day trippers, while modern day Brighton is most commonly associated with live music, the Brighton Festivals, and a lively and very well established gay community.
Brighton Tourism
Tourism is one of the biggest factors in Brighton’s popularity and home to over 400 pubs and an equally impressive number of night clubs and music venues, Brighton nightlife is especially lively. Brighton Festival is the largest UK art festival with only Edinburgh proving larger. The Brighton Centre and the Brighton Dome are two of the most popular live music venues in the South of England attracting major names as well as up and coming acts from the region.
Music In Brighton
Music plays a major part in Brighton’s culture. Live acts feature in numerous Brighton pubs as well as the larger venues but one of the biggest talking points concerning Brighton music in recent years has been the controversial Big Beach Boutique. Arranged by Fatboy Slim, this sees much of Brighton Beach closed off to play host to live music from Fatboy Slim and guests.
Brighton Festivals
Festivals have also formed a major part in local life. As well as the arts festival, Brighton has a very popular and impressive fringe festival that is believed to be the second largest in the world. The Soundwaves Festival that runs in June is a classical music exhibition that highlights the greatest 21st century compositions and composers. Preston Park plays host to the extremely well attended Gay Pride festival in the month of August and a second “Winter Pride” festival has also started in the month of March.
Brighton Pubs And Clubs
Brighton pubs and clubs offer this very same eclectic mix of modern and traditional culture. More than 400 pubs can be found in Brighton with the vast majority found near the seafront. There is also a growing number of Brighton clubs and music venues as well as bars and restaurants where visitors can enjoy a drink and sample some great tasting food and friendly atmosphere.
The LGBT Community
The lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender (LGBT) community is very well established in Brighton and has earned the town the mantle of being the gay capital of Britain.
