Cambridge

Cambridge Nightlife

Cambridge, named after the River Cam, is most widely known for the highly prestigious Cambridge University. Thanks largely to the university, it is a very cultural city and while it has a population of just over 100,000, almost 25% of this population is made up of students from the university. The city centre is also a very popular destination for shopping. The skyline of Cambridge, like many other factors of the city, is largely dominated by the university.

About Cambridge

Large areas of the land in and around Cambridge are owned and maintained by the University and those that aren’t directly owned are inspired by the existence of one of the world’s most renowned universities. For example, Cambridge and the surrounding area is collectively known as Silicon Fen because of the high density of ultra modern businesses that are in some way involved in technology and high technology related industries. Even the buildings within the city centre are owned by the various colleges that form Cambridge University.

Cambridge University

Cambridge University is widely renowned around the world as being one of the most prestigious and most highly regarded of all universities. Science parks and business parks have been established around the city itself, formed either by or because of the existence of the university although several housing estates were also developed in a bid to house London residents and workers looking for somewhere to live. The many Cambridge pubs and clubs, restaurants, and music venues are typically found in the city centre and collect around the university itself.

Cambridge Festivals And Events

Cambridge is a prime example of a city that has developed and grown thanks to the existence of its university, and this is equally prominent in the culture of the city too. The most famous band to hail from Cambridge was Pink Floyd while a number of festivals including the Cambridge Beer Festival and the Cambridge Film Festival draw crowds from around the world. The Beer Festival lasts for a week at the beginning of May started in 1974 and offers more than 200 different varieties of beer.

Cambridge Pubs And Clubs

Like a lot of university towns and cities, Cambridge certainly isn’t lacking in pubs, clubs, and bars. Around the town centre and especially the university campus you can find some of the best looking and most enjoyable pubs and bars with a number of night clubs and late bars also found here. The beer festival is an obvious draw for the beer connoisseur but real ale and good beer is definitely the order of the day in most Cambridge pubs.
