Edinburgh Nightlife
Edinburgh is the seventh most populous city in Britain and the second most populous in Scotland. The Scottish capital is home to a large collection of pubs, clubs, restaurants, and bars, many of which offer late night drinking as well as themed venues, live music, and much more. Three of the most popular areas that include a greater concentration of Edinburgh pubs and clubs are Grassmarket, New Town, and Leith and the city as a whole plays host to many different festivals and other events throughout the year.
Grassmarket
Once the setting for public executions, Grassmarket is directly South East of Edinburgh Castleand where there were once a number of popular markets there is now a fine selection of restaurants, bars, and pubs as well as hotels and retail outlets. The newly redeveloped Grassmarket region is becoming an increasingly popular area thanks to new and extremely modern venues as well as the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh castle.
New Town
The New Town district of Edinburgh is perhaps most notable for containing the majority of Edinburgh’s main central shopping region but is also world renowned for being a masterpiece in city design and development. A number of modern pubs and bars have opened in New Town in order to cater to the increasing population and the massive number of visitors that continue to flock to the region every year.
Leith
Leith is situated on the waterfront in Edinburgh and despite facing decline throughout the 20th century it hit a turnaround in fortunes in the 1980s and continued to develop and prosper as the then Scottish Office purchased, developed, and improved much of the property and land in the area. There are now many fine restaurants as well as relaxed waterfront bars and vibrant nightclubs found on the waterfront in Leith.
Edinburgh Festivals And Events
No visit to Edinburgh would be complete without taking in one of its many festivals or other events. The Edinburgh Festival is the most well known of these, although it is in actual fact a series of events and festivals that run for over a month every single year. The Edinburgh Fringe or Edinburgh Comedy Festival has also proven a real crowd puller bringing people from all around the world to visit Edinburgh.
Edinburgh Pubs And Clubs
There are many Edinbugh pubs and clubs as well as restaurants, cafes, and bars situated in every corner of Edinburgh city. Some offer live music while others provide televised sports events.
