Reading Nightlife
Reading nightlife combines a blend of over 200 pubs and bars with a good selection of late night venues and clubs. As a university town, Reading has a high population of students and the relatively small town offers a lot of pubs and clubs, as well as restaurants and shops within a short walk from the main town centre. Yet to gain city status, Reading is particularly well known for hosting one of Europe’s largest music festivals and is also home to a number of sporting venues as well as attracting some big name DJs and other music acts.
Reading Festival
The Reading music festival, running sine 1971, is considered to be the second largest and second most popular UK music festival with only Glastonbury being bigger. Run by Festival Republic the three day event takes place every year during the August bank holiday and features. As the world’s oldest popular music festival, Reading Festival tens to feature pop, rock, indie, punk, and metal acts including some of the biggest names in music from around the world. During the festival, Reading is literally packed with music lovers attending the festival.
Sports
Sport plays a big part in Reading with the Madejski Stadium (named after Reading FC chairman John Madejski) being the centre of most of the action. As well as playing host to Reading FC, the stadium is also home to the Premier League Rugby Union team London Irish. Reading has a strong heritage in Rugby as well as a large Irish population; a combination that helped the team beat the Premiership attendance record attracting more than 23,000 fans to a single match in 2007.
Reading University
As well as the renowned University of Reading, the town is also a major campus for the Thames Valley University, one of the largest universities in England. The existence of the two universities means that Reading features a very large student population; something which is evident when looking for popular Reading pubs and clubs. Enjoyable and affordable nights out can all be found within the town centre.

The Abbey Ruins and Museum of Reading are located within Reading itself while visitors also have easy access to local sights like Basildon Park and the Roman Town of Silchester. River trips and hiking are also especially popular in the region and Reading is a great central location for any active weekend or short trip to the South East.
